The Seren Highback chair is a member of the Seren family of chairs. The ancestor of the Seren was designed by Pete Hill (a graduate of the ANU School of Art and Design in the mid 1990’s) and made for the Bungendore Wood Works Gallery. When Pete closed his workshop in 1997, Evan, who was the Workshop Manager at the Bungendore Woodworks Gallery Workshop, was asked to complete some back-orders that the gallery had for Pete’s chairs.
In 1998, the BWWG workshop burned to the ground in a mid-night fire. All the “new” chairs were destroyed, along with all the jigs, templates and sample components. Evan started his own workshop and for the third time in two years this chair was put in to production. Ironically, it is because the chair was “re-developed” three times that the basic form is so sweet (the curve of that back leg is still perfect).
The Seren Highback chair comes with a Wave timber seat as standard (pictured). This chair can also come with an upholstered seat and timber back slats.
