We run a small number of Masterclasses in our workshop every year. Our three key courses are our Summer Hand Tools Masterclass, our Production Masterclass and our Design & Development Masterclass. A Private Mentoring Session is available at any time. Join our mailing list to keep up to date with our offerings.
Private Mentoring Session
I’m regularly asked for small bits of advice and I’d never discourage simple questions. Just email me evan@dunstonedesign.com.au.
Some of you have more complex questions and you hold back because you don’t wish to impose. I’ve developed the Private Mentoring Session so you can “ask me anything” without feeling uncomfortable about it. More info here:

Summer Hand Tools 2023 Week 2
January 23, 2023 @ 8:30 am - January 27, 2023 @ 4:00 pm
Summer Hand Tools is back for 2023!
You will be making a Dunstone Design style hall table featuring through-wedged-tenons, mitred bridal joints, butterfly keys and hand shaping.
You will learn sharpening, blade geometry, accurate marking out, hand fitting joinery, planing, gluing up techniques, finishing, precision sawing, using a shooting board, chisel work and much, much more.
You can make your hall table in blackwood, American rock maple, or jarrah. The hall table is drawn at 1200mm L x 330mm W x 750mm high, but you can customise the size down.
The class runs 8:30am to 4pm, Monday 23th January to Friday 27th January, 2023. Please note that we will work through Australia Day.
The class will be taught by Evan Dunstone and award-winning Dunstone Design craftsman William Bayliss (winner of the 2019 Wootha Prize and the 2021 Australian Wood Review Maker of the Year).
Moring tea and lunches are included.
The class is limited to 8 students and tickets can be bought online with a deposit of $500. The full cost of the course is $2,500 incl. GST (includes materials, consumables and food). You will be invoiced for the balance of the ticket a week prior to the commencement of the course. The retail price of this design is $2,500 incl. GST. Tickets are not transferable. A deposit refund of $300 is available for general cancelations. We will refund 100% of your deposit/ticket price if you need to cancel due to COVID or other illness.
This course is suitable for advanced-beginner and intermediate woodworkers. Email evan@dunstonedesign.com.au for more information.
What to bring;
For you personal comfort, we suggest you bring your personal PPE of dust mask, hearing protection and safety glasses. Feel free to bring as many of your hand tools as you like (no power tools). This is a great opportunity to finesse the sharpening and geometry of your tools. Please bring a note-book and/or sketch book.
What to wear.
You must wear enclosed stout footwear. Boots are ideal, but steel caps are not mandatory. It could be quite hot during the week, so dress accordingly.
