A client wanted a foot stool to go with the Werriwa lounge. I had already designed the Werriwa stool, which was concieved of as a multi-role low stool that could be used with or independently of the Werriwa lounge. This client wanted a foot stool that was more closely in keeping with the Werriwa styling and that provided horizontal leg support. He did not envision using the stool separately to the chair.
I’m very interested in low stools as a genre. It’s not a well explored form. I wanted the Sexton Werriwa to have a very “forward” stance. I wanted it to look like it was about to run off across the room.
The challenge was getting the upholstery to match the Werriwa lounge styling as well the energy of the new design. Peter Smart of Smart Upholstery had three goes before he was happy. This deceptively simple low stool design took more thought and prototyping than some of our more complex larger chairs.
The price of the Sexton Werriwa Foot Stool does not include the cost of the leather (but it does include the cost of doing the upholstery). We can only buy leather “by the hide”, so the cost of the leather on one Sexton can be high. The Sexton Werriwa Foot Stool is usually bought in conjunction with Werriwa lounge chairs and the leather price can often be spread across all the pieces.
