The original Mundi Mundi Entrance Table was inspired by sunrise over the famous Mundi Mundi plains of far Western NSW. Mundi Mundi was designed and made by William Bayliss. The piece is an extension of his recent work (January/February 2024) in New Zealand while assisting Michael Fortune at the Centre for Fine Woodworking.
This design can be commissioned in a range of timbers and sizes.
The Mundi Mundi Entrance table won the Furniture Section of the 2024 Wootha Prize. The Wootha is one of Australia’s richest woodworking prizes. William won the Wootha at age 21, making him the youngest ever winner. For that matter, he’s also the youngest winner of the Furniture Section of the Wootha!
Mundi Mundi is a sculptural form in jarrah, silver ash and brass. William pursues whimsical designs that are unrestrained by conventional forms. His cabinets, such as the Wilcannia and the Wakapuaka cabinets are masterpieces of cabinetmaking and technique, while constantly flirting around a specific function.
William’s work is influenced by Alan Peters, Jere Osgood, David Savage, Michael Fortune and of course Evan Dunstone. William has taken these influences and created something new and quintessentially original and Australian. This is best showcased by his award winning Bunyjul pair of tables that clearly reference the northern Frillnecked Lizard (Bunyjul in Nugal-warra language), yet echos his influences.
Mundi Mundi comes with its own custom-made shipping crate and can be sent nationally or internationally.
