DESCRIPTION:This four-hour hands-on class\, presented by Curtis Turner from Lie-Nielsen USA\, will focus on the selection\, set up\, sharpening and usage of Lie-Nielsen planes. You will use block planes\, smoothing planes\, shoulder\, and router planes. You will learn proper planing techniques\, the proper sequence for flattening a board\, shooting and material holding methods. You will learn how to sharpen using water stones and a jig. This course is for those new to hand planes or those wanting to get more from their own planes. Feel free to bring along your personal Lie-Neilsen tools and have them tuned up by Curtis. This is a rare opportunity to have small-group access to a Lie-Nielsen expert. Strictly limited to six attendees per session. \nCurtis Turner in an American hand tool expert and educator. Curtis has worked for Lie-Nielsen Toolworks USA for over 18 years as a teacher\, demonstrator\, and member of their board of directors.  As an avid woodworker\, he is passionate about helping people get the most out of their woodworking hand tools.  Curtis has taught woodworking at many schools and guilds\, including the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine and Austin School of Furniture in his native Texas.  He has travelled across the US\, England\, Spain\, Sweden\, Netherlands\, Russia\, France and Norway teaching woodworkers how to sharpen\, set up\, and successfully use a wide range of Lie-Nielsen tools. \nYou do not need to own any Lie-Nielsen tools\, nor be an experienced woodworker to attend this course. SUMMARY:2026 Workshop Open Day and Hand Tool Event
DESCRIPTION:Dunstone Design’s Workshop Open Day and Hand Tool Even is back this October\, Sunday 18th! \nThis year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. Terry and the team from HNT Gordon will be here with a wide range of tools and demonstrations (see more on Terry’s plane making classes below! SOLD OUT).  American hand-tool expert and educator Curtis Turner will be returning to demonstrate Lie-Nielsen tools. Ben Adams from the Sunshine Coast will be here with his handmade travishers. Colen Clenton\, with his world renowned marking out tools\, will be here.  Other Australian tool makers will join us (TBA). We will blow the dust off some of our old Dunstone Design tool designs and have MacFarlane bowsanders and TC Scrapers for the first time in 6 years! Master Carver Hape Kiddle will be here discussing and demonstrating the range of knives\, gouges\, files\, rasps and other hand tools that he uses every day in his practice. Hape will also have a selection of his carvings on exhibition in the Dunstone Design gallery. The Dunstone Design team will be demonstrating a range of techniques including glue ups\, laminating and shaping. \nDunstone Design will have timbers shorts\, turning blanks and resawn veneers for sale. We will have $500 “luck dip” packs of select timber shorts\, and factory seconds or superseded furniture designs for sale and discounted prices. \n10am to 4pm Sunday 18th October. Tickets are $10 and limited to 400 people. \nAttendees are welcome to stay all day\, but if you allocate yourself three hours at any point in the day\, you will get a good taste of everything that’s happening. \nTickets are limited to 400 places over the full 6-hour period. Tickets are $10 each to help us cover the insurance and organizational costs. \nParking in available in the Services NSW carpark and in Aurora Pl. Disabled parking is available with prior notice. Our workshop toilets are easy to access but we do not have designated disabled toilets. \n \n  \nSOLD OUT!!
