SUMMARY:2026 Workshop Open Day and Hand Tool Event
DESCRIPTION:Dunstone Design’s Workshop Open Day and Hand Tool Even is back this October\, Sunday 18th! This will be our first Open Day as the new custodians of Lie-Nielsen Toolworks Australia. We have new Lie-Nielsen stock heading our way\, as well as a few surprises. Come and try these world class tools. \nThe Open Day is a chance for us and some of our favourite tool makers to share techniques with you. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. Terry and the team from HNT Gordon will be here with a wide range of tools and demonstrations.  American hand-tool expert and educator Curtis Turner will be returning to demonstrate Lie-Nielsen tools (see his Masterclass Series!). Ben Adams from the Sunshine Coast will be here with his handmade travishers. Colen Clenton\, with his world-renowned marking-out tools\, will be here.  We will blow the dust off some of our old Dunstone Design tool designs and have MacFarlane Bowsanders and TC Scrapers for the first time in 6 years! Master Carver Hape Kiddle will be here discussing and demonstrating the range of knives\, gouges\, files\, rasps and other hand tools that he uses every day in his practice. Hape will also have a selection of his carvings on exhibition in the Dunstone Design gallery. Chris from the Wood Tamer will be joining us with a beautiful range of carving tools. So will Michael from Hardware for Creative Finishes and Devon from Ironbark Tools. The multi-award-winning Dunstone Design team will be demonstrating a range of techniques including glue ups\, laminating and shaping. Dunstone Design will have timbers shorts\, turning blanks and resawn veneers for sale. This event is for everyone interested in woodworking and fine furniture. \n10am to 4pm Sunday 18th October. Tickets are $10 and limited to 400 people. \nParking in available in the Services NSW carpark and in Aurora Pl. Disabled parking is available with prior notice. Our workshop toilets are easy to access but we do not have designated disabled toilets. \nCurtis Turner from Lie-Nielsen USA will be running a 4-hour hand tool masterclass series on the Thursday and Friday leading up to our Workshop Open Day and Hand Tool Event. Curtis will cover the setup\, sharpening and usage of Lie-Nielsen planes. You will use block planes\, smoothing planes\, shoulder\, shooting and router planes. You will learn proper planing techniques\, the correct sequence for flattening a board\, shooting and material holding methods. You will learn how to sharpen using water stones and a jig. Feel free to bring along your personal Lie-Neilsen tools and have them tuned up by Curtis. This is a rare opportunity to have small-group access to a Lie-Nielsen expert. Strictly limited to six attendees per session. \n  \n \n  \n  \n
